ROME PRIDE PARADE 2023

Born and raised in the outskirts of Moscow I was really far from LGBT culture. The "mentality" of the post-Soviet society in which I grew up was not close to them either. Representatives of the older generation of my country (teachers, relatives, and acquaintances) have always tried to avoid this topic. In my 24th year of life, for the first time, I was lucky enough to get to a Pride Parade in Rome and feel the importance of holding such events.

The symbol of hope and inspiration, community building and support, advocacy for equal rights, or maybe the way to show visibility and awareness? Anyways, in my opinion these vibrant and colourful events are not just about celebration.

But what exactly motivates people to take to the streets of their city?

In this project, I tried to answer these questions by capturing the faces, details, and, most importantly, people’s feelings and emotions.
